Athiya Shetty’s father, Suniel Shetty, recently made a comment that reignited rumours over Athiya and KL Rahul’s family planning. Rumours of Athiya’s pregnancy went viral after the Bollywood actor—who also serves as a judge on Dance Deewane—dropped a clue.
In a recent episode of the show, presenter Bharti Singh made fun of Suniel for becoming a grandfather. Suniel responded by saying that when he returns in the following season, he will be performing on stage like a grandmother. This comment stoked speculation that Athiya and her cricketer husband, KL Rahul, might be expecting their first child.
According to Hindustan Times, Sunil claimed on the reality show, “Yes, when I come (on Dance Deewane), I will be walking on the stage like a nana.”
The pair, who were married in a secret ceremony in January 2023, commemorated their one anniversary together earlier this year. They posted a beautiful video of themselves together, highlighting memories from their wedding and married lives, to Instagram with the caption, “Finding you was like coming home.”
But neither Athiya Shetty nor KL Rahul have commented on the circulating pregnancy rumours as of yet. Fans are anxiously expecting an official statement from them confirming or refuting the rumours.
Speaking of himself as KL Rahul’s father, Suniel Shetty has previously professed his appreciation for his son-in-law. He talked warmly about Rahul’s skill in cricket and how he went from being a fan to becoming a father figure to the player.

Even in my early acting days, I was someone who would always go see talented people perform. To see kids play, I would visit Wankhede. Rahul is from Mangalore, so I knew he was from my own backyard when I watched him play. I thought he was a lovely kid. I was a fan and now I’m a father because I take great pride in everything that kids from small communities accomplish. I know every move he makes, almost as well as he knows himself,” Shetty remarked.
