In the IPL 2025, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were dealt a severe setback when their skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, was forced to miss the competition due to an elbow fracture. He was not only a captain but also one of the team’s top hitters. His absence makes CSK’s faltering top order appear even more vulnerable.
Although his batting successor has not yet been announced, the squad has chosen to give MS Dhoni captaincy for the remaining games. In a news conference held on April 10 prior to CSK’s home match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the developments.

Ruturaj Gaikwad discussed his injuries, how he would miss the season, and how happy he is to see a “young wicketkeeper” take charge of the club.
“Yes, the season has been difficult, but we now have a youthful wicketkeeper in charge, so maybe things will improve. Supporting the team from the dugout, I’ll be right there with them. Some things are just beyond our control, but I would have wanted to help the squad get out of this predicament. “Here’s to a strong season finale, and I look forward to supporting the boys for the remainder of the campaign,” Gaikwad said in a video that was shared on CSK’s social media accounts.

Having lost four of their last five games, CSK isn’t enjoying the competition. There will be some relief and hope for the rest of the season for CSK supporters now that Dhoni is back as captain.
Rahul Tripathi, Devon Conway, and Rachin Ravindra are among the players the Chennai-based club would rely on to perform well in Gaikwad’s absence. Vijay Shankar and Shivam Dube will also need to play in the middle order. It would be intriguing to watch how CSK’s season develops now that Dhoni is returning to his most well-known role.
