In India’s December 2023 tour of South Africa, Rinku Singh demonstrated his dominance by smashing the glass of the press box at the stadium in addition to scoring a scorching 68 runs off just 38 balls. Notably, Port Elizabeth’s St George Park hosted the series’ second Twenty20 International. Rinku, who batted at number five, hit two maximums and nine boundaries in his undefeated knock.
Nevertheless, almost a year after the incident, the glass has not been replaced. According to the management of St George Park, the ground is waiting for the power hitter to arrive at the location so that he can sign the smashed glass shield. The height at which the damaged region was placed made repairs more difficult, the ground management stated.
“You see, changing it will be a difficult task because it is situated at a certain height here. “We have concentrated on the more serious issues that have kept coming up,” a ground management official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told TOI, adding that someone would need to be lifted on a crane before the repair work could be completed.
Because the site is close to the Indian Ocean, we must continuously endeavour to prevent corrosion in the metallic pillars supporting the venue’s different stands and buildings. Furthermore, the glass “hasn’t hurt anyone yet and doesn’t appear to do so.” When Rinku next visits, perhaps we can get him to sign it,” he continued.

In November of last year, Rinku Singh performed in South Africa.
Rinku Singh, a southpaw, was included in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad as a travelling reserve but was unable to make the 15-man roster. For the T20I series, the batter headed to South Africa in November 2024. He also played at St George’s Park, but it’s possible that the ground crew didn’t get a chance to get his autograph.
