Anrich Nortje, who is injured, has been replaced by bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch in South Africa’s 15-man team for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The 30-year-old Corbin Bosch scored 1/69 in nine overs during his December ODI debut against Pakistan.
Nonetheless, he was instrumental with the ball for MI Cape Town in the just finished SA20 2025, which helped the team captained by Rashid Khan win the championship. The team has also added Kwena Maphaka, a gifted fast bowler, as a travelling reserve.
Seafarers have been suffering from injuries in South Africa. In addition to Lizaad Williams and Beuran Hendricks recuperating from injuries, Gerald Coetzee was sidelined due to a groin problem. To join the team for the remaining games of the tri-nation ODI series against Pakistan and New Zealand, Corbin Bosch, Maphaka, and opener Tony de Zorzi go for Karachi on Sunday, February 9.
The Champions Trophy campaign for South Africa will begin on February 21.
Yasir Arafat, a former all-rounder for Pakistan, has been retained as a consultant for the South African men’s team for the ICC mage cricket tournament as well as the tri-nation series. In the Champions Trophy, South Africa is grouped with Afghanistan, England, and Australia in Group B. In Karachi, the Proteas kick off their campaign on February 21 against Afghanistan, who are making their debut.
After that, Temba Bavuma and company will go to Rawalpindi to play Australia on February 25. The match against England in Karachi on March 1 will mark the conclusion of South Africa’s group-stage campaign. Notably, last year’s T20 World Cup finals saw South Africa suffer a heartbreaking defeat. In 2023, they lost to Australia in the ODI World Cup semifinals. The Proteas would like to get past their setbacks and compete for the Champions Trophy.
