India’s women have been playing quite well lately. The team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, has been dominating opponents, as seen by their recent multi-format series win against South Africa. Following their resounding victory over the Proteas in the three-match ODI series, the teams faced off in a one-off Test match at Chennai’s famed MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In the One Test, the India team broke a world record when they batted first.
The women of India, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, opened up. With a first-inning total of 603/6 runs, Shafali achieved her first three-figure score in an international match with 205 runs, while Mandhana demonstrated her consistency with 149 runs. This was the greatest team total in the history of women’s Test matches.
Australia previously held the record, having defeated South Africa with a total of 575/9d in 2024. Furthermore, the Australians, who scored 569/9d against England in 1998, still hold third place on the list.

Too hot for the Proteas, Kaur & Co.
In reference to the women’s match between India and South Africa, the middle order performed admirably as well, following the host’s outstanding opening stand in the first innings. India achieved a 600-plus total in the format for the first time thanks to scores of 55 in 94 deliveries from Jemimah Rodrigues, 69 in 115 deliveries from Harmanpreet Kaur, and 86 in 90 deliveries from Richa Ghosh.
With a few wickets to her credit, Delmi Tucker led her team in wicket-taking for South Africa. Three wickets apiece went to Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, and Nadine de Klerk.

On 603 runs, Team India declared, but lost six wickets in the process. The hosts will want to bowl with the ball in hand and be as fruitful as possible when they go out. India will try to complete the deal as soon as feasible after winning the one Test match, then go to the 20-over matches at the same location.
