MI On Saturday, February 8, at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Cape Town defeated Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, by 76 runs to win the third SA20 2025 tournament. Cape Town controlled the proceedings on the big day, making the final a one-sided affair after a number of exciting matches over the season.
MI At the conclusion of the league phase, Cape Town was at the top of the standings. They easily defeated the Paarl Royals in Qualifier 1 to go to the finals. In the summit match, Rashid Khan chose to bat first after winning the toss. At the top of the order, Ryan Rickelton had a great cameo. Connor Esterhuizen had a good contribution as well, scoring 39 off 26 balls. Dewald Brevis had a brilliant knock at the conclusion of the innings, scoring 38 off 18 balls to help Cape Town to a respectable 181/8 in 20 overs. Liam Dawson, Richard Gleeson, and Marco Jansen each claimed two wickets.
Within the first three overs of their reply, Sunrisers lost two wickets. With a 57-run partnership, Tom Abell and Tony de Zorzi attempted to salvage the innings, but they were unable to raise the stakes. Everything went south for the Sunrisers after the two set batters were removed in the tenth and eleventh overs, respectively. In the end, the team captained by Aiden Markram was bowled out for 105 in 18.4 overs.
Cape Town’s best bowler was Kagiso Rabada, who finished with figures of 4/25 in 3.4 overs. George Linde and Trent Boult both took two wickets, which helped. The former won Player of the Match after giving up just nine runs in his four overs.
