Over his career, Sachin Tendulkar has amassed 100 international hundreds and hit a ton of runs against every team in every situation. But he has a special place in his heart for one century in particular—his first ton.
Three years after making his debut as a sixteen-year-old, he scored his first century against England in 1990. Tendulkar saved the Manchester Test for India, coming in at six and remaining undefeated at 119. He also won Player of the Match after scoring 68 runs in the first inning.
“It’s a difficult one! [Which of his international centuries was particularly noteworthy? However, I would have to argue that my 1990 match against England was my first century in international cricket. We were in a difficult situation, and I was only seventeen. In an interview with Boria,
Sachin Tendulkar stated, “That innings gave me self-belief and made me feel like I belonged at the highest level.”
His double-century against South Africa in Gwalior in 2010 is another memorable century. In One-Day Internationals (ODIs), he became the first player to ever score a double ton.
“Another special one was my double century in ODIs against South Africa in 2010 – becoming the first to reach that milestone was special,” stated the 51-year-old.
In addition to several other records in international cricket, Tendulkar is the owner of the most runs in Tests (15,921) and ODIs (18,426).
