Sai Sudharsan recently discussed how staying calm and composed helps him perform better in the current red-ball game against the West Indies in Delhi.
Sai Sudharsan only managed seven runs in the first Test, but he scored 87 in the second Test’s opening innings.
The Southpaw emphasised that his smooth 87-run hit was the result of remaining calm in the lead-up to the game. He also mentioned how a successful series versus Australia A (two fifties and a century in three innings) boosted his confidence. He praised skipper Shubman Gill for clarifying the former’s responsibilities.
The Southpaw also acknowledged his skipper’s self-confidence as a desirable quality.
“I was not thinking about the pressure or the magnitude of the game. I was coming off a good India A series, so my focus was only on how I could make the innings better. I tried not to think about anything else, just to stay as calm as possible and not get caught up in the occasion. It was a very composed innings for me. Before the game, I had decided to take a bit more time and let things happen naturally, rather than forcing them,” stated Sudharsan while speaking on Amul Cricket Live.
“The role clarity was definitely there from Shubman, and what I admire most about him is his belief, the belief to come back stronger, to convert starts into big hundreds, and to make the team win. When you see him up close, you realize how much conviction he plays with. I feel that’s something I should learn from him, that self-belief is such an important quality to have,” he added.
India are 318/2 after 90 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (173* off 253) and Gill (20* off 68) unbeaten at the crease. Gill & Co. will aim at building on the foundation and amass a big first innings total before getting a crack with the ball at the opposition.
