The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) was founded last season, bringing exposure to street cricketers across the country. The league will undergo significant changes, with Bollywood actor Salman Khan becoming one of the owners of the New Delhi team.
Ashish Shelar, an ISPL core committee member, was astonished with how successful the competition has become, citing the staggering numbers across broadcast and digital media, and voiced his delight at having Salman Khan in the mix for the upcoming season. He was also thrilled with the amount of support the competition has had in the last two seasons, and he believes that the current season will be even bigger and better.
“We’ve had two incredible seasons, with record-breaking numbers across broadcast and digital platforms.” It is heartening to see increased support for our vision. “The addition of superstar Salman Khan to the mix is the icing on the cake, as we gear up for an even bigger and better Season 3,” Shelar told NDTV.
Cricket is a heartbeat that resonates across every street in India. Salman Khan.
The Dabangg star has also expressed his excitement to be a part of the tournament alongside other B-town personalities who own franchises in the tournament, including Amitabh Bachchan (owner of Majhi Mumbai), Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan (owners of Tigers of Kolkata), Akshay Kumar (owners of Srinagar Ke Veer), Suriya (owners of Chennai Singams), Hrithik Roshan (owners of Bangalore Strikers), and Ram Charan (owners of Falcon Risers Hyderabad). Salman has a lot of great things to say about the competition and how it’s promoting the sport at the grassroots level.
“Cricket is a heartbeat that echoes down every street in India, and when that energy reaches the stadium, leagues like the ISPL emerge. I’ve always been enthusiastic about the game, and I’m excited to join the ISPL since this one-of-a-kind competition not only supports grassroots cricket in India, but also empowers young players by offering a valuable platform. “This is just the beginning; as Season 3 progresses, fans will learn more about the team and form a stronger bond,” said the two-time National award winner.
