When Sam Konstas played his first game for Australia in the just finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he demonstrated tremendous potential. With six boundaries and two maximums in the Melbourne Test, the right-handed batsman hit a scorching 60 off just 65 balls. The whole focus was on him dealing with the Indian team’s anger, however, after he got into a fight with Virat Kohli on the pitch.
This was followed by a second-inning dismissal of the batter for just eight runs. He scored 23 and 22 runs, respectively, in both innings in the last Test. After experiencing the international arena firsthand, Konstas assessed his play in the two Test matches and acknowledged that his emotions affected him somewhat. He was very upbeat about the forthcoming Sri Lankan series.
Due to the crowds, things will be quite different in Sri Lanka. Maybe the emotions got to me a little because it was my first time performing in front of large crowds. Naturally, though, Sri Lanka will be difficult to defeat at home. That is something I am eager to see. Konstas.
Being able to represent my nation and travel to Sri Lanka is undoubtedly an enormous privilege. They have embraced me, and I am eager to learn and improve. Of course, we have a formidable team. In the event that I am given the chance [to open], I will, hopefully, seize it. I’m inclined to continue supporting myself. Naturally, I’ll modify my various approaches. I am very excited for that to occur,” he continued.
Not in the Champions Trophy team is Sam Konstas.
It was not possible for the 19-year-old to join the Australian team for the 2025 Champions Trophy. With two fifty-plus scores in four Big Bash League 2024–25 games thus far, the hitter is settling into a groove and aims to establish himself as a regular for the national squad across the format.
“That’s a dream come true hopefully but they (selectors) haven’t said anything,” Konstas continued.
