In the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against India at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), 19-year-old Sam Konstas had an outstanding debut for Australia. Even though he received a lot of accolades for his aggressive style and outstanding half-century, his off-field declaration that Virat Kohli was his favourite Indian cricket player of all time went viral.
After struggling against India’s bowling attack in the first three Test matches, Nathan McSweeney was replaced by Konstas in the Australian playing XI for the Boxing Day Test. It was quick for the right-handed opener to settle in.
Konstas produced an aggressive performance against the Indian bowling order, hitting his first Test fifty off just fifty-two balls, including several scoops to the boundary off India’s top pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.
A picture of the Australian cricket player went popular on social media following his first innings. When asked to select his favourite Indian cricket player, Konstas chose Kohli. “Virat Kohli. He does genuinely amazing things.

The second-youngest Australian to reach a Test fifty is Sam Konstas.
It’s interesting to note that halfway through the morning session, Konstas and Kohli got into a mid-pitch brawl during a break between overs, forcing the umpires to step in.
The aggressive attitude was adopted by the New South Wales native, who was under pressure to make his debut. The hosts got off to the ideal start thanks to his 60 off 65 balls, which included two sixes and six boundaries.
Just before lunch, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja trapped him leg before wicket, ending his innings. After Ian Craig, who reached the milestone at 17 years and 239 days, he became the second-youngest Australian to register a Test fifty.
