Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), a former season finalist, faced Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opening match. But when RR pacer Sandeep Sharma was hit in the chest without warning, there was a fleeting moment of worry. The incident took place shortly after SRH’s dominant powerplay.
Even though they were assigned to bat first and lost the match, SRH started out strong. With 94/1 in the powerplay, the Sunrisers took advantage of the batting-friendly circumstances. Even after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed after scoring 24 runs, Travis Head and Ishan Kishan kept up the attack. After reaching his fifty in just twenty-one balls, Head once again appeared to be in excellent form.
The batting lineup was difficult for RR’s bowlers to manage, but play was momentarily halted by Sandeep Sharma injury scare.
In the seventh over, the right-arm pacer had just delivered a ball and was making his way back to his bowling mark. While he was chatting with Head, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was at long-off, picked up the ball and tossed it to the stumps without realizing Sandeep was not looking. The ball landed squarely on his chest. Since the impact appeared to be painful, the RR medical crew hurried out to see how he was doing. Luckily, the pacer was back to his mark to bowl his overs and finish the over.

Meanwhile, SRH continued their power-hitting masterclass. Head and Kishan ensured the momentum did not drop after Abhishek’s dismissal. The Sunrisers, strengthened by their strong core from last season, have entered IPL 2025 as one of the favorites. However, the Royals managed to get rid of the Australian opener for a score of 67.
