Sanjay Manjrekar, a well-known cricket guru and former Indian batter, feels that Virat Kohli is about to make a spectacular comeback to form ahead of the highly anticipated Test series against South Africa.
India, who struggled to win in South Africa on their previous tour, is desperate to succeed there, as it has proven to be a difficult place for them to conquer in Test cricket. Thinking back to Kohli’s last outing, Manjrekar said,
“I observe Virat Kohli engaging in a few personal pursuits. He will become enraged. Sanjay Manjrekar told Star Sports, “Kohli has had to work harder for Test runs lately because he did not get a big one on the last trip to South Africa.”
“I like to see Virat Kohli look all riled up and angry.” David Warner as well. Manjrekar underscored, underscoring the possible influence of Kohli’s emotional intensity on his batting ability, “You see them batting better when they get a little fired up.”
Manjrekar addressed worries about Rohit Sharma, the new captain of India’s on-field conduct, recalling the scandals that dogged the team’s last visit to South Africa. He suggested that the team dynamics would be different and conveyed his faith in Rohit’s leadership approach.
“No (a recurrence of the last series’ stumbling aggression?) since Rohit Sharma has taken over as our new leader. However, you’re right—it reminds me of times when players said things they had never said before, like implying that the local broadcasters were rooting for the South African side and such. However, that team had a different mentality the last time around because they usually play in a different way under Rohit Sharma. I don’t see it occurring because the captain is the one who develops the culture, Manjrekar said, brushing off the possibility of another stump-mic attack.
On Boxing Day, December 26, India will set off on a mission to clinch a historic Test series victory in South Africa, marking the beginning of their road towards redemption. Fans are excitedly awaiting Kohli’s performance, but the real question is whether the star batsman will step up to the plate and give India the victory they have sorely missed for far too long.
