After Rishabh Pant’s terrifying performance with the bat continued in IPL 2025, Sanjiv Goenka looked disheartened. On Monday, May 19, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. The fervent owner of LSG stood on the balcony, observing the activity.
But Sanjiv Goenka turned around and rushed back into the air-conditioned box after Pant was removed for a six-ball seven.
After openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave LSG a fantastic foundation with a partnership of 115 runs, Pant came out to bat in the eleventh over. The LSG captain’s innately combative style was in full force. Eshan Malinga, a Sri Lankan bowler with excellent athleticism and quick reflexes, chipped a return ball to him and was dismissed tamely after diving to his left on his follow-through.
Pant, who became the most expensive player in IPL history when LSG roped him in for INR 27 crore at the mega auction last year, has only managed 135 runs in 12 games at a dismal average of 12.27 and strike rate of 100.

LSG post 205/7 in first innings
Earlier in the day, SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to field first. He would have been worried after the blistering start that Marsh (65 off 39) and Markram (61 off 38) gave the home side, however, SRH pulled things back wonderfully well in the backend of the innings.
Markram couldn’t accelerate after scoring his half-century, and Nicholas Pooran (43) didn’t have much support from the other end. Akash Deep hit a six off the last ball to take LSG past the 200-run mark. However, at one stage, it seemed that they would amass a 220-plus total. Malinga was the pick of the bowlers for SRH, finishing with figures of 2/28 in his four overs.
