Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), was fined INR 24 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Samson was fined INR 24 lakhs because this was his team’s second infraction of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. The Impact Player and the other members of the playing xi shall each receive a punishment of INR six lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.
However, when Sanju Samson was forced to play as an impact player because of a finger injury, RR committed its first over-rate penalty this IPL under Riyan Parag’s direction.
For the first offence against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last month, Parag was fined INR 24 lakh.
RR lost their third loss of the season in five games, including their second offence, after winning their previous two games. They now hold the seventh position in the rankings.
Speaking of the game, Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, decided to bowl first against the hosts after winning the toss. Sai Sudharsan’s 82 off just 53 balls helped the GT batsmen, who had lost captain Shubman Gill early in the game, post 217 runs for the visitors.
However, none of the Royals were able to score many goals, which would have prevented the team from losing. Shimron Hetmyer was the only player to score 52 off 32 after Sanju Samson’s 41 off 28 balls, but it fell short of expectations and failed to give the team a victory.
