In the IPL 2025, Sanju Samson, captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), was upset prior to the start of the Super Over match against the Delhi Capitals (DC). On April 16, the Delhi Capitals defeated RR in a thrilling match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, earning them their fifth victory of the IPL 2025.
Due to their previous pursuit, RR was given the opportunity to bat first in the one-over shootout. Although the Rajasthan-based team was given a target of 189, they managed to tie the score and force a Super Over. Later, it was observed that RR’s coaches, Rahul Dravid and Sairaj Bahutule, were discussing the playing combination with the other players.
Sanju Samson, the skipper, was close to the huddle but stayed out of the discussion.
A player was heard hailing Samson from behind in a social media video that went viral, but the Royals captain decided to leave. Rumours of a potential conflict between the skipper and the RR management have been raised by these antics. During the game, Samson scored 31 off 19, including two boundaries and three sixes, but was injured and had to retire.

I knew there was definitely a rift within the setup when there were absolutely no discussions or chat in the dugout before the super over.Everyone was standing quite in a circle in the dugout.Look at Sanju’s hand signal in the first video,he is deliberately ignoring everyone. https://t.co/DfxmlwGgBG pic.twitter.com/688ji3MXrS

Nothing is going right in RR.
Now let’s be honest and admit Drovid never liked Sanju and didn’t take any inputs from him in retentions. I believe he never takes his inputs for playing XI. You can simply see how Sanju is also not interested. The energy and vibe is gone from RR

Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were all dismissed along with Nitish Rana, who had scored 51 off 28 that evening, raising doubts about the Royals’ selection of players for the Super Over. RR ultimately lost the Super Over after scoring just 10 runs, which KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs were able to chase down.
RR’s decision surprised DC captain Axar Patel. “Hetmyer again failed to make an impact during the contest. So I thought Riyan and Jaiswal would come out. After the game, he stated, “But it worked out well for us, whoever they sent out.” Rana, however, supported the choice made by his team, calling it the right one.
“The captain, senior players, and team management make the decision, and I believe it was the right one. There wouldn’t have been any question if Hetmyer had hit two sixes. “Hetmyer is our finisher and he has performed well for us in the past,” Rana stated during the news conference held after the game.
“I believe we missed one important shot. We knew that if you have 15 runs and you take one wicket, there’s a chance because the batting team will be under pressure, so we set a goal of 15 runs in the Super Over. Credit, I believe, should go to Starc. This kind of death bowling was finally seen in the IPL.
