Sanju Samson is now a serious candidate for a spot in India’s 2025 Champions Trophy squad after having a strong run in the Twenty20 Internationals. Between South Africa and Bangladesh, the batsman hammered 107 runs off 50 balls and 111 runs off 47 balls. The right-handed batter, however, may not make the flight to the United Arab Emirates despite his outstanding exploits.
The selection committee is considering Dhruv Jurel as an additional wicketkeeping option because of the 30-year-old’s poor performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with Rishabh Pant already in the running. Ishan Kishna was vying for the position alongside Sanju and Jurel, in addition to Pant, who was the default pick.
OnManorama claims that the administration was especially upset because Sanju Samson had skipped the Kerala team’s training camp before the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25. The management chose to only include the players who participated in the sessions, despite the wicketkeeper-batter having reportedly notified the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) of his inability to attend the camp.
Because Sachin Baby, another important player, was also missing, in addition to Sanju, Salman Nizar was elected captain. As a result of the star players’ absence, Kerala’s performance suffered; they only won two of their five games and were eliminated.
During the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson was benched.
Sanju Samson, a talented wicketkeeper-batter, was a member of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 team but did not appear in the starting lineup for the duration of the competition. On January 19, India’s team is anticipated to be announced, and the coveted Champions Trophy will begin on February 19. Originally scheduled for January 12, the deadline for clubs to submit their squads was moved to January 19.
