On Sunday, March 3, the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants women squared off in Game 10 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) in Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Both teams played well, but the Delhi Capitals, captained by Meg Lanning, prevailed.
In addition to making tournament history, the game saw the first-ever concussion replacement, with Sayali Satghare of the Gujarat Giants replacing Dayalan Hemalatha, who suffered a concussion.
Remarkably, in the 15th over of the Capitals’ innings, Hemalatha was hit in the forehead while trying to make a catch at deep midwicket.
After suffering an injury, Hemalatha did not play for the Giants; Sayali Satghare took her place.
Fascinatingly, Satghare amassed a seven-run lead in the second half of the WPL’s tenth match after the Giants purchased him for INR 2 crore at the auction.
Gujarat Giants continue to lose in the 2024 WPL
In reference to WPL game 10, the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants started their match with Delhi batting first after Delhi lost the toss. With a hit of 55 runs in 41 deliveries, captain Meg Lanning got her team started. Alongside the captain, the Delhi Capitals amassed 163 runs in the first inning thanks to scores of 27 from Alice Capsey and 20 from Annabel Sutherland.
In the first innings, Meghna Singh of the Gujarat Giants claimed the most wickets for her team with four. Tanuja Kanwar and Mannat Kashyap each scored one run, while Ashleigh Gardner claimed two wickets.
The Gujarat Giants did not play to the best of their skills while trying to pursue the objective. After just 12 runs, captain Beth Mooney left the game. Sutherland was her team’s top scorer with 40 runs in 31 deliveries, followed in close succession by Phoebe Litchfield with 15 more runs. Her knock did not, however, suffice to lead the Giants to their first victory of the year. The team fell by a score of 25 runs despite scoring 138 runs in the opening round.
