Cricket icons Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni were beaten by current captain Rohit Sharma in a recent ‘This or That’ challenge won by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. On the fringes of the Delhi Premier League T20, Sehwag was given a series of player comparisons as part of the assignment. Though surprising, Sehwag’s decisions were intriguing because he was a former colleague of Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit.
At first, he preferred MS Dhoni to Ben Stokes, but in the end, he went with AB de Villiers. After Virat Kohli entered the mix and, in Sehwag’s opinion, passed De Villiers, the competition shifted. The big surprise, though, was when Sehwag finally chose the India captain, Sharma against Kohli.
Rohit’s selection wasn’t a coincidence; Sehwag kept picking him ahead of tough opponents like Dale Steyn and David Warner, elevating Sharma to the top and declaring him the challenge’s victor.

Extremely pleased with Rohit Sharma’s self-perception: Virender Sehwag
During India’s successful campaigns in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, Sehwag and Dhoni shared the pitch. While Kohli helped win the 2011 World Cup, Rohit was a part of the 2007 championship.
Sehwag’s decision might have been influenced by Sharma’s previous successes. India won their second T20 World Cup in 2024 under the 37-year-old captain’s direction, with him emerging as the team’s leading run scorer.

“Over the past year or so, Rohit, the only player to have participated in all nine T20 World Cups, has greatly impressed us with the way he has changed his style of play to become more offensive and fostered a supportive environment inside the team. It has produced outcomes and has been greatly required. I’m really pleased of the way you’ve handled yourself, and I hope the future brings you all the best,” tweeted Sehwag earlier.
