On Tuesday, Sussex Cricket made the public announcement that they have acquired the services of Pakistan international allrounder Shadab Khan for the 2023 T20 Vitality Blast. Shadab Khan, who was given the role of vice-captain for Pakistan’s limited-over teams in 2021, is going to play for the Sussex Sharks for the full Blast season.
The all-rounder who bowls eight-arm leg-spin has represented Pakistan in 84 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), during which he has taken 98 wickets and with best statistics of 4-8.
In 2017, Shadab Khan made his debut in a Twenty20 International for Pakistan against the West Indies. He immediately created a name for himself, winning the Man of the Match award in back-to-back games and collecting a total of seven wickets while allowing only 21 runs.
Shadab Khan has played in 38 Twenty20 Internationals, and he has a personal best score of 52. He has scored a total of 476 runs, with a strike rate of 143.8.
According to James Kirtley, the bowling coach for Sussex, “Shadab will provide amazing experience in our middle order. He is someone who has played all around the world and has experienced many situations, both of which can only benefit our team.” Shadab is someone who has played all around the world.
“But more than anything else, he is an experienced head that Ravi can go to as captain to ask for support when making key in-game decisions. He can score runs and take wickets in crucial periods, so he really does bring flexibility for our team.
I have no doubt that he will make a significant contribution to the success of our group this season “The comments made by the coach were included in a statement that was published by Sussex on its official website.
With the age of 24, Khan has already participated in 225 domestic Twenty20 matches, during which he has amassed a total of 2088 runs at a strike rate of 136.91.
Shadab Khan is excited to follow in Mushtaq Ahmed’s footsteps by playing for Sussex at the first Central County Ground after spending the previous season playing for Yorkshire in the Blast.
“I really enjoy competing in England. It is an honour to follow in Mushtaq Ahmed’s shoes because I am well aware of the illustrious career he has had at Sussex. The county of Sussex has a long and illustrious history, and I have high hopes that my skill set will contribute to the team’s success at the Blast this season “said the Pakistani player who plays all positions.
