Shahid Afridi Excited for India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 Clash

Shahid Afridi, a former cricket player, stated his excitement for the major event, which is scheduled to start on June 1, as well as his eagerness to see the India vs. Pakistan match.

The match between the fiercest rivals is scheduled to take place on June 9 at the recently constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The victor of the 2009 T20 World Cup continued by expressing his excitement for the tournament’s main match between Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam’s team.

“The T20 World Cup has been growing stronger in the past few years, and I’m excited to be a part of this edition, which promises more teams, matches, and drama than ever before.” I am especially looking forward to the June 9 India vs. Pakistan match. The ICC cited Afridi as stating, “It is one of the greatest rivalries in sports, and New York will be a fitting stage for this unmissable encounter between two great teams.”

ICC appointed Shahid Afridi as a tournament ambassador.

The legend of Pakistani cricket has been added to the star-studded roster of ambassadors for the future Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which the United States and the West Indies will co-host. Shahid Afridi, the former captain of Pakistan, is the most recent person to join the exclusive group. The iconic cricket player will be promoting the major event alongside the likes of Chris Gayle of the West Indies, Yuvraj Singh of India, and Usain Bolt, the fastest man in history.

The best T20 World Cup memories for Pakistan have always been linked to Afridi. Despite their defeat to India in the championship match, he was voted Player of the Tournament for his heroic contributions to their run to the final in the first-ever 2007 edition.

But in the 2009 rematch, the Men in Green triumphed thanks to Afridi’s Player of the Match performances in the semifinal and championship games. Afridi expressed his happiness at working with the ICC on the renowned competition and mentioned that some of the highlights of his career during his active days as a Pakistan international came from previous tournament editions.

“I have a lot of personal attachment to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Some of my favorite career milestones have come from participating on this stage, from winning the trophy in 2009 to being named Player of the Tournament in the first edition, Shahid Afridi said.

Shahid Afridi stature was emphasized by ICC General Manager Claire Furlong, who expressed her satisfaction with the former cricket players’ involvement in the 30-day competition.

“Who better to join our all-star Ambassador squad than Shahid Afridid, who competed in six ICC Men’s T20 World Cups, winning two of them as captain and turning in a Player of the Match performance to win the trophy in 2009? A global fan favorite, he will be bringing fans closer to the event ahead of what is expected to be the biggest T20 World Cup ever, along with Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, and eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt, he added.

The inaugural match of the 20-team competition will be held in Dallas, Texas, with co-hosts USA playing Canada. After that, everyone will be focused on the historic June 9 match between India and Pakistan at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
