In Match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which took place on Friday, April 25, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Mohammed Shami dismissed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Shaik Rasheed on the opening delivery.
Shami thus became the first bowler in IPL history to claim four wickets on the opening ball of the innings.
It has been accomplished three times by Ashok Dinda, Trent Boult, Praveen Kumar, Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umesh Yadav.
Shami had an effect on the opening delivery against CSK despite being benched for the previous game against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Curling in, then landing on the seam and stepping out, it was a quintessential Shami delivery. Abhishek Sharma caught the ball sharply to his right at first slip after Rasheed went for a punch and got a heavy outside edge.
Aate hi kaam shuru kar diye! 🔥#MohammadShami strikes on the very first ball of the innings to give #SRH the perfect start in their quest for a maiden win at Chepauk! 💥
Can they make history tonight?👇✍🏻

Shami hasn’t been in great form in the IPL 2025. Before tonight, the right-arm seamer had managed only five wickets in seven games at an average of 52.2 and an economy rate of 10.9.
