Tabraiz Shamsi, Roston Chase, and Khary Pierre of the St Lucia Kings spinners combined for seven wickets to bowl out the Trinbago Knight Riders for 109 and secure a dominant seven-wicket victory in Tarouba. Tim Seifert, Ackeem Auguste, Chase, and Tim David then completed the chase at the start of the 12th over, giving them net run rate a significant lift with their fourth win in a row, which put them at the top of the points table. Their streak also halted TKR’s five-game winning streak, as they lost first place following this game.
Pierre scored on the second ball of the encounter after Kings decided to bowl. He had Colin Munro caught for a duck with a delivery that was kept low. In the third over, Darren Bravo clipped Pierre to short fine leg for 11, but skipper Nicholas Pooran made a brief comeback.
But as Chase had Hales bowled for nine to close the powerplay, Kings began to deteriorate. Forty for two quickly became 59 for five at the end of ten overs.
Tabraiz Shamsi dismissed Akeal Hosein with a bad first ball, while Chase, who finished with 2 for 19, had Pooran caught behind, albeit with the help of DRS.
Following Pooran’s knock of 30 off 27, no TKR batter reached 20.
Keiron Pollard and Andre Russell were TKR’s best hopes for reaching a good total. However, Shamsi bowled both hitters with his deceptive turn, finishing with 3 for 12 without giving a single boundary in four overs. Nathan Edward and Terrance Hinds propelled TKR above 100, but Delano Potgieter and Alzarri Joseph tied up the tail, leaving Kings with only 110 to win.
Seifert fired the first ball. He swept Hosein for six, then cut and punched him for fours in the first over, which went for fourteen. TKR dismissed Seifert’s partner Johnson Charles for one at the conclusion of the second over, but Seifert had already scored 25 runs off ten deliveries. Two quiet overs followed, before Auguste and Seifert ended TKR’s momentum.
The two batters doubled the score in the final two overs of the powerplay, leaving Kings at 66 for 1. Usman Tariq, on the other hand, put an end to Kings’ pleasure in the seventh over, catching Seifert at deep midwicket for 36 off 19 balls. Sunil Narine trapped Auguste for an attacking 28, but Chase, who blasted Tariq for three fours in the ninth over, and David led Kings home with 53 balls remaining.
