Due to a back ailment, the two-time champions’ regular captain, Shreyas Iyer, will miss the first half of the IPL. As a result, a new interim leader will be named. Shardul Thakur is likely to be named interim captain by KKR.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will choose a temporary captain for the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. On March 31, the 16th IPL season will get under way. In the meantime, KKR will begin their IPL campaign on April 1 in Mohali against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). As the IPL has scheduled a meeting with all of the team captains for Thursday, March 30, KKR must make a decision about their captaincy quickly. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the captains about the latest rule modifications issued by the board, especially the Impact Player rule.
The Times of India said that veteran Sunil Narine and newly acquired player Shardul Thakur are the leading candidates for the captaincy position at KKR. Since Thakur is an Indian all-rounder, KKR is more likely to select him because it would make it simpler for the team’s Indian members to communicate. KKR acquired Thakur from the Delhi Capitals (DC) during the off-season.
Narine, meanwhile, has served as a spokesperson for the KKR team for more than a decade. Also, he led the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, KKR’s sister team, in the first International League T20 (ILT20). Remarkably, the ILT20 franchise only managed one victory and placed last overall.
According to a TOI story, “KKR is scheduled to announce the name of their new captain in a lavish celebration within the next couple of days, with its owner, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and an international pop singer set to light up the occasion.”
On April 1, the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali will host the opening game between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings. On April 6, the two-time IPL champions will host their first home game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
