So, Shashank Singh, a rising star and batter for the Punjab Kings (PBKS), recently expressed his thoughts on Shaw’s deteriorating career trajectory.
The ‘next big thing’ in Indian cricket was previously predicted to be Prithvi Shaw. His spectacular Test debut for India seemed to justify it to some degree. He was scoring a ton of runs even on the regional circuit. But eventually, the hitter lost his rhythm, and ever since, he has been declining in all forms of cricket.
This was not the end of it. Shaw was not sold at the mega auction because of his poor fitness and other problems off the field. thus won’t play in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). To make matters worse, the Mumbai-based hitter was left out of the domestic team for both the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy.
Prithvi Shaw is not given enough credit. Everything is possible for him if he returns to his fundamentals. Since we played club cricket together in Bombay [Mumbai], I’ve known him since he was thirteen. If you ask me what’s wrong with him, I would say that he sees some things differently. Perhaps his work ethic might be improved, his diet could be improved, or he could sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM. “It would be best for Indian cricket if he could accept and change some of these things,” Shashank stated on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast.
Notably, Shaw received no bids at all during the massive IPL auctions after being released by the Delhi Capitals (DC), despite his base price of INR 75 lakh. Despite all of the bad luck, Shaw recently played for the Route Mobile team in the DY Patil T20 2025 event. The Mumbaikar amassed an outstanding average of 56 runs while leading the team from the front. In his three innings of action, the right-hander kept his strike rate at 182.61.

Punjab Kings were able to benefit from Shashank Singh auction mix-up.
Regarding Shashank Singh, he was signed by the Punjab Kings for an astounding INR 5.5 crore because of his outstanding play the previous season. Even more intriguing is the fact that PBKS had no intention of purchasing him, leading to a mind-boggling confusion at the mini IPL auction. However, the alleged “blunder” ended up being advantageous for the batter as well as the team.
In the IPL 2024 season, Shashank afterwards demonstrated his value by finishing as Punjab’s top run scorer. He averaged a respectable 44.25 in 14 innings and scored 354 runs, which is noteworthy. In these appearances, he maintained an impressive strike rate of 164.65 and hammered two half-centuries.
The next IPL 2025 season will see Shashank make his debut on March 25 in Ahmedabad when PBKS plays Gujarat Titans.
