Due to visa complications, Shayan Jahangir, the batsman and wicketkeeper for the USA, will not play in the opening ODI of the tri-nation series against Namibia. The USA will play Namibia at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turd 1) on Saturday, February 8, to begin the series against hosts Oman. Before the USA’s second ODI match against Oman on February 12 at the same location, Jahangir’s arrival remains uncertain.
When the USA prepared for the tri-series in India, Shayan Jahangir, a Pakistani national, was unable to attend.
Due to the last-minute decision over the camp’s location, he was essentially forced to leave the travelling party to India. This is because it typically takes a long time to provide Indian visas to Pakistani nationals. But throughout the years, Pakistanis have had no trouble getting an Oman visa, and it’s unclear if there was an administrative error when he applied for one.
With a resounding century against Nepal in October of last year, Shayan solidified his position as the opener, therefore the visa issue has come at the worst possible time. This was, incidentally, the final ODI assignment for the USA. While Andries Gous is an alternative, it is thought that Smit Patel would take Shayan’s place as wicketkeeper.
We really want Shayan in Oman with the squad because he is a vital member of our group. Shayan will not be able to play in the forthcoming ICC CWC League 2 matches since he was unable to travel with the team owing to an administrative problem with his entry visa, which was not his fault. A USA Cricket representative who was asked to comment on the incident stated, “We’re disappointed and will work to understand why this unfortunate decision has been made.”
In his 24 ODI and 14 T20I appearances for the USA, Shayan has amassed 601 and 253 runs, respectively. In both white-ball versions, he has two half-centuries. Two tonnes have been shattered by him in ODIs.
Due to a damp outfield, the toss before the USA vs. Namibia match has been postponed. The weather forecast is favourable, though, so supporters can hope that the action will start later in the day.
