At Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians played a thrilling final-ball match to start the 2025 World Premier League.
Delhi needed two runs off the last ball of the match, chasing 165, when Arundhati Reddy, who had just come out to bat, maintained her composure and got the team across the finish line, winning by two wickets.
“The tournament opener was pretty much the same game last time, but we ended up on the wrong side of the result,” Pandey remarked following the game. We’re on the right side this time, and it took a team effort.
The Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 164 earlier by the DC, who were hampered by Pandey’s bowling stats of 2/14.
“I had a lot of fun bowling with the new ball,” Pandey remarked, looking back on her performance. We watched the game last night, and I knew that any magic I could work with the new ball would have to be done in the first few overs since the wicket would be flat. All I wanted to do was use the new ball to take wickets first. As I’ve been working on it, I sort of convince myself that I should be able to swing the ball off the hand.
Speaking on the preparation and execution of DC’s bowling, the 35-year-old stated, “Meg (Lanning) keeps telling me that she relies a lot on her gut instinct. In games, the captain, coaches, and management spend a lot of time. We genuinely prepare against every other team in addition to Mumbai.
Pandey also praised Niki Prasad, a rookie who contributed significantly to the chase with a score of 35 off 33. She said, “I’m also very happy for Niki (Prasad).” She brought us really close and displayed a lot of character in this high-stress game, which was her first.
The second game between the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is scheduled for February 17.
