In an unexpected turn of events, the Indian Premier League’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered their first loss of the year. Captain Shreyas Iyer blamed the loss on the difficult Chennai surface.
KKR failed to make an impression in their match on April 8th at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, managing just 137 runs in their innings and losing by seven wickets in the end. Shreyas Iyer cited the unpredictability of the Chepauk field as a primary cause of their poor performance in a statement released following the game.
“Despite our great powerplay start, we dropped wickets one after the other. After the powerplay, we were slow to evaluate the situation and had difficulty scoring runs. They bowled in accordance with their intentions since they (CSK) understood the conditions rather well. It wasn’t simple to pursue them following the initial ball. Shreyas Iyer said to the broadcaster following the game, “We were trying to construct the innings, but it didn’t fall in place according to the plan.”

The bowlers for KKR could not hold on to their low total, but CSK easily reached the goal in just 17.4 overs to secure a resounding victory.
We felt that a score of 160–170 was good, but we faltered. Shreyas Iyer
With three significant wickets taken for just eighteen runs, CSK’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the most impressive performer. His outstanding bowling, together with that of Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande, completely destroyed the KKR batting order.
“After the powerplay, the wicket was altered. We lost steam even though we were at ease and believed that 160–170 was a respectable result. We need to start over and take what we’ve learned from it. This occurred at the beginning of the event, which is good. We will know our home conditions rather well when we return. Iyer continued, “We must analyze the circumstances and utilize them to their fullest potential.
Even though they lost their last game, KKR is still in the thick of things at the top of the league standings. The team’s priorities will be to rectify their batting problems and adjust to new pitch conditions as they reorganize for the next few games.
