After the Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final league stage game in Jaipur to dominate the points table and earn a spot in the IPL 2025 Playoffs for the first time since the 2014 season, Shreyas Iyer spoke candidly about the team’s mentality. In Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur in Chandigarh, PBKS will take on an equally formidable RCB with the goal of making it to their first IPL final in eleven years.
A social media video featuring a chat with the captain about playing in the playoffs was shared by PBKS after their decisive victory over MI. Iyer was ecstatic and said it was a huge accomplishment for the team and the players. They weren’t considering the playoffs, he said, and their goal was to win. He claimed that from the very first day, the only goal was to win the championship.
“To be honest, I’m thrilled. For the franchise and all of the players, it’s a fantastic accomplishment. Their efforts have paid off. Our attitude was to go out and win from the very first day. In the widely shared video that PBKs shared on their official ‘X’ handle, Iyer stated, “We weren’t thinking about the playoffs; we were thinking about winning the championship, and that is our mindset.”

PBKS and RCB will clash in IPL 2025 Qualifier 1
Punjab Kings will have a challenging faceoff in their upcoming match at home, as RCB have been equally impressive in the ongoing season so far. It could well be one of the matches of the season, considering the star players present on both sides.
While PBKS’ performances have revolved mostly around their batting, with good bowling performance from Arshdeep and others in some matches, RCB have performed better as a unit, with different players stepping up to win matches for their side.
PBKS has the home advantage, although their record is not as good in Mullanpur. RCB have not lost a game away from home in the IPL 2025 and can beat any team on a given day. Iyer will be key both as a batter and as a skipper, as PBKS has been a strong unit under his leadership.
