Brad Haddin, Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) assistant coach, has commended the team’s batting efforts during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, ahead of their match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, May 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The former Australian cricketer also affirmed that PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer’s batting position, which dropped down the order in the team’s most recent match against Rajasthan Royals, will remain unchanged. Haddin indicated that the circumstances caused them to move Iyer down the list.
He praised Shreyas Iyer dedication and observed that he persisted to field on the boundary despite a finger injury.
He also praised Shashank Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai for stepping up when needed, highlighting their great performances in the league.
“Our top order was fantastic. Our skipper has been excellent at number three. We’ve seen Shashank and Omar (Omarzai) on several times. When they were needed, they stepped up and played exceptionally well. Shashank has a handful of 50s, and so has Omar. At this point in the competition, we’re pleased with where all of our batters are,” Haddin said.
“It was owing to the situations from the previous day. It was a gutsy attempt to take the pitch with his finger in such condition. So he still played a role, jogging around the boundary in the second half of the game. But, yes, he will return to his customary place at number three. “He has been outstanding, not only as a batter, but also as a leader throughout the tournament,” he said.
Owen will demonstrate his talent: Haddin
Haddin voiced faith in Mitchell Owen, noting that he will undoubtedly demonstrate his abilities in the forthcoming contests. He informed the boy that he had gotten significant coaching and would play in the manner expected by the team.
“I believe Mitch adds one thing: raw brute force. He’s had almost a week to adjust to what he’s going to get. He realises the situation now. He is talking a lot to our Indian batsmen and the coaching staff. So anticipate Mitch to get his next opportunity to play the way we want him to,” Haddin added.
We have specific aims for finishing: Haddin
Haddin highlighted that the club is focused on finishing strong at the end of the league stage. He stated that the next few games will be vital and emphasised the players’ desire to perform.
“It looks fantastic from the outside, but we talked to the group about playing the game and the sort of game that we want to play, and we have some specific goals for where we want to finish. And I believe you will see that increase over the next couple of games,” Haddin stated.
“I believe we currently have the luxury of choosing between several possible combinations. And what I like about it right now is that all of the players want to play. They are eager to get out onto the pitch. Training is really competitive, and that is where you want your team to be at this point,” he explained.
