India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory on March 9 was a joyous occasion, and No. 4 batsman Shreyas Iyer was one of the campaign’s many heroes who continuously delivered for the team. India’s leading scorer in the tournament, the Mumbai cricketer was praised as the “silent hero” by captain Rohit Sharma.
With two half-centuries and 243 runs at an average of 48.60 in five innings, Iyer was instrumental in India’s undefeated campaign. He was the tournament’s second-highest run scorer, trailing only Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand, who was named Player of the Tournament.
“Superb. I must admit that I am at a loss for words. It is a wonderful sensation. I’m overjoyed that I was able to support the team in every game and in every way. Additionally, obtaining those vital catches and run-outs in the outfield. After the final victory, Iyer said in a video released by BCCI, “I think there is no better feeling than seeing that you are the team’s top run scorer, and the feeling is surreal, man.”
Overall, it’s an amazing feeling: Shreyas Iyer
For Iyer, winning the Champions Trophy marked the end of an amazing year. With the Champions Trophy 2025 with India, the Ranji Trophy 2023-25 with Mumbai, the Irani Trophy 2024, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, and the IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders, the 30-year-old won five major trophies in a 12-month period. He was pleased to help the squad win and shared his emotions.
Personally, I think I could have won the game tonight (in the championship game), but what? Since everyone wants to see the team win the game at the end of the day, I would rather win the trophy than hit the winning runs on any given day. I’m thrilled with how everyone helped the team win and me take home my first ICC trophy; it’s a wonderful feeling all around. I’ve won five titles in a year, and I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful,” he continued.

After Kohli was dismissed early in the final, he entered the game at a critical juncture in the 20th over. India found itself in a difficult situation after Rohit was dismissed a few overs later. Iyer took his time settling in and steadied the innings before facing the Kiwi bowlers. Before being out of the game by Mitchell Santner, he scored 48 from 62 balls.
He will be leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after finishing the Champions Trophy campaign. KKR decided not to keep him on board even though he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL championship the previous season. However, he was purchased by PBKS in the mega-auction for an astounding INR 26.75 crore.
