Shreyas Iyer, an India batter, missed the ODI series between India and Australia because of a back injury that keeps coming back. Now, the 28-year-old is said to be out of action for four to five months.
Because of his injury, Shreyas Iyer might not be able to play in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) or in the World Test Championship final, which is set to take place at The Oval on June 7, 2023. Iyer is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. If he can’t play, the team will be desperate to find a new captain.
Shreyas Iyer didn’t play in the fourth Test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy because he was hurt, and Rohit Sharma, the captain, said that scans of Iyer didn’t look good. The injury may have hampered Shreyas Iyer plans for the 2022–2023 season, but the star batter will work to recover as soon as possible.
The Times of India said that Iyer would have back surgery, which would likely keep him from playing in the IPL and the WTC final.
KKR will soon be looking for a new captain.
Shreyas Iyer absence will hurt Kolkata Knight Riders a lot, since the 28-year-old is an important part of the team and will be needed for his leadership in the next tournament.
Shreyas Iyer has played in 101 IPL games and has scored 2776 runs in those games. Not only will KKR miss his skills as a leader, but they will also miss his explosive batting and his ability to hit hard. Since it looks like he won’t be able to play for a few months, Kolkata will try to find a replacement as soon as possible and also choose a stand-in captain.
In Iyer’s absence, there are many people who could take over as leader. The KKR team is full of talented people, and players like Tim Southee, Nitish Rana, and Sunil Narine could be ready to lead the team in the IPL in 2023.
