Team India (IND) is currently competing against New Zealand (NZ) in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, hoping to finish first in their group and advance to the tournament’s knockout round. Notably, the game will take place on March 2, which might be considered a Sunday blockbuster.
The Men in Blue were allowed to bat first, but they got off to a shaky start, losing three wickets in rapid succession. At that point, the score was only 30. It also included skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
However, Team India’s number four specialist Shreyas Iyer appeared to the crease and stabilised the ship alongside all-rounder Axar Patel. While Iyer scored an outstanding 79 runs, Patel delivered a crucial 42-run knock to help the side escape early difficulties with their 98-run stand.
During his innings, Shreyas Iyer took on the New Zealand bowlers while also displaying some impressive smashes on short balls. Notably, after he reached his half-century mark, he raised his bat to acknowledge the audience; the moment soon went viral on the internet as fans spotted something different. In a video that went popular among cricket fans, while Iyer was raising his bat, spectators saw that the bat sticker said “hitman” on it. This indicated that the bat most likely belonged to India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, also known by this nickname.

I’ve seen Pant fans saying that he saves team from collapse Now where are those guys? He doesn’t even come close to Shreyas Iyer in ODIs Iyer was the highest run scorer at no 4 in 23 WC and pant doesn’t have WC fifty yet #INDvsNZ pic.twitter.com/ML2ZRszuj0

Speaking of the current game, as of this writing, the Men in Blue lost a few quick wickets in the conclusion of the innings in an attempt to increase the scoring rate and were unable to build on their comeback in the middle of the game. Due to some outstanding fielding by the New Zealand team, India ultimately concluded with 249 runs in their 50-over allotment. Interestingly, the winner of today’s game would get to play Australia in the Champions Trophy quarterfinal. South Africa is the opponent of the losing team.
