Recently, Shreyas Iyer thanked Abhishek Nayar and several other coaching staff for supporting him through difficult times. The Indian batsman expressed his desire to maintain relationships with individuals who supported him during his worst moments.
He identified Abhishek Nayar and Pravin Amre as his pillars of strength in a recent conversation.
As you can see, very few people message me while I’m having a bad day. Their names are Abhishek Nayar and Praveen Amre, sir. Just as I mentioned, Sagar. I trained with Sagar. At that time, I had excellent assistance from a few other people. Since they have known me since I was a little child, I will always have these individuals at my side. They remain normal while everything is going smoothly. But when things go wrong, they treat me really well. I therefore value this mindset. According to News18, Iyer said, “And if such people are around you, then you will definitely grow.” He was speaking to journalist Vimal Kumar.
Notably, while Amre was a player for the Delhi Capitals, Iyer collaborated with him. In 2022 and 2024, he worked alongside Nayar while he was a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the Indian system, Nayar, a former cricket player from Mumbai, has also collaborated closely with Iyer. This comes after he was hired as an assistant coach by Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff in July 2024.
Iyer most recently played for the Men in Blue in the Champions Trophy, which just ended. In five innings, the middle-order hitter scored 243 runs. In the 50-over competition, he finished as the second-highest run scorer. During the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, the 30-year-old was purchased by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore. The team’s recently hired captain will try to turn the tide of the match.
