Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav’s poor form continued in the third Twenty20 International against South Africa on Sunday, December 14 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Shubman and Suryakumar scored 28 (28) and 12 (11), respectively, as India chased down a meagre 118-run target with seven wickets and 25 balls remaining.
The 2017 T20 World Cup is almost two months away, and India has only seven T20Is left until the big event begins. The fact that India’s skipper and vice-captain are battling for runs is a concern for the defending champions.
However, Abhishek Sharma believes that both hitters will regain their form and win games for India in the buildup to the World Cup and during the 20-team event.
“I tell you one thing straight away that trust me, these two guys are going to win matches at the World Cup and before in other series as well,” Abhishek said after helping India take a 2-1 series lead. “I have been playing with them for so long, especially with Shubman, so I know where he can win the match, what are the conditions, irrespective of the team.
“I have a lot of faith in him from the beginning and I hope everyone will see it very soon and everyone will have faith,” Abhishek stated.
I’m looking for runs, not out of form: Suryakumar
Meanwhile, skipper Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation that he has been batting well in the nets and trying everything he can control. He asserted that he is not out of form but definitely short of runs.
“The thing is, I’ve been batting beautifully in the nets,” Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation. “I’m trying everything that’s in my control. When the runs have to come, they’ll definitely come. But yes, I’m looking for runs, not out of form, but definitely out of runs.”
The fourth T20I is scheduled to be played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, December 17.
