Prior to the next ICC Cricket World Cup, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh praised rookie batting phenom Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old is close behind Babar Azam, who is placed first in the ICC rankings, as the top Indian batsman in the 50-over format.
Shubman Gill has the potential to be the finest player of this generation, according to Yuvraj. The boy has been working four times as hard as other people since he was a child, the former cricketer continued.
“Shubman Gill has the capacity to emerge as this generation’s top athlete. A hard worker, he is. His attitude hasn’t changed since he was between the ages of 19 and 20. Since he was a young man, he has worked four times as hard as the average individual. He may be the player of this period, no matter what I have done with him, Yuvraj told The Week.
In December 2020, Gill played his first Test series in Australia, and the 41-year-old praised Gill’s performance. The youthful player contributed significantly to India’s historic victory in the fourth Test in Gabba with a key 91-run innings.
Shubman Gill made 91 runs in a Test match that India won.
On his first tour to Australia, he also scored two fifty-sixes, which I don’t think many players have ever done. He continued, “I have no doubt that he will score runs in Australia, South Africa, and England.
Yuvraj, who led India to the World Cup triumph and Player of the Tournament honors in 2011, suggested that Gill may be a pivotal player for the Men in Blue at the major competition.
“He (Gill) is at a point where he is fearless right now. He has the potential to change the World Cup for India. The veteran cricketer said, “He opened up the game against Pakistan and placed the bowlers under strain.
In the ODI World Cup, which gets underway on October 5, Gill and India’s skipper Rohit Sharma will open the innings for his country. He’s scored 1917 runs in 35 ODIs thus far, averaging 66.10. The 24-year-old batsman will be the only one to reach 1000 ODI runs in 2023.
