On Tuesday, May 2, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the 44th game of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) featured a low-scoring contest between the defending champion Gujarat Titans and the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals. First to bat, Delhi fell victim to the outstanding bowling performance of the defending champions. David Warner was the team’s captain, but they only managed to score 130 runs in the first inning. Both Wridhhiman Saha and Shubman Gill were dismissed early in Gujarat’s second inning as they attempted to chase down the target.
Despite Hardik Pandya’s tenacity and Rahul Tewatia late surge, Gujarat were unable to prevail, as Delhi won by five runs.
After Gujarat’s disappointing loss, Shubman Gill asserted that a target of 131 runs should have been attainable with relative ease.
“The wicket was not terrible. We bowled really well. We were unable to form partnerships in the upper order, which put stress on the lower order. “The wicket was difficult to bat on, but with our batting, chasing 131 runs shouldn’t have been a problem,” Gill said in the post-game press conference.
Shubman Gill who is in sensational form in the current cash-rich division, did not perform well against the Delhi Capitals. The 23-year-old, who has scored 339 runs in nine games thus far, scored only six runs in seven deliveries against Delhi.
In addition, captain Hardik Pandya scored a half-century, but he was unable to lead Gujarat to victory. Gill, reflecting on Pandya’s innings, stated that the captain simply had an off day against Delhi.
“As players and batters, we are all destined to experience an off day. It was simply one of those off days in which he believed in himself, as every batter should. “He was confident in his ability to score those runs, but DC bowlers bowled some excellent yorkers in the end,” Shubman Gill explained.
