In the Gujarat Titans versus Mumbai Indians match in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing IPL 2023, youngster Shubman Gill was in sensational control. Based on the 23-year-old’s innings of 129 runs off 60 deliveries, the defending champions scored 233 runs in their first inning. The cricketer eventually scored his third century in his last four games of the lucrative division, giving the impression that he was unstoppable in the middle.
The captain of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma, was also astounded by his innings and later congratulated him. Former India captain Virat Kohli also praised the 23-year-old, while Rishabh Pant posted an Instagram story with the caption ‘Classs babaa’ to congratulate Shubman Gill on his outstanding innings.
The Mumbai batsmen did their best during the pursuit, but the five-time champions ultimately lost the match by 62 runs. Suryakumar Yadav (61 runs off 38 deliveries) and Tilak Varma (43 runs off 14 deliveries) were brilliant in the middle, but neither was able to assist MI in reaching their eighth final.
Notably, following the conclusion of the match, Shubman Gill was observed having an intense conversation with Sachin Tendulkar, the current coach of the Mumbai Indians. Gill was observed attentively listening to Sachin as the two engaged in conversation.
The over in which I scored three sixes gave me the impetus to score heavily: Shubman Gill.
Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match for his superb knock against MI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. During the award ceremony, the cricketer revealed that his three sixes off Akash Madhwal in the 12th over gave him the impetus to succeed.
“For me, it is a never-ending game of ball against ball. The over, in which I scored three sixes, gave me the impetus to score heavily. Then I realized it could be my lucky day. “It was also a good batting wicket,” said Gill during the post-game presentation.
“I am also coming off a successful international season. The previous season was also successful. When I begin a game well, I am confident that I will score well. I believe my game has improved since the last WI tour. I was injured before the last IPL, but I have been focusing on my game. After the T20I World Cup, I have focused on a few areas and made technical adjustments in preparation for the New Zealand series,” he added.
