Shikhar Dhawan, who opened the batting in ODIs with Shubman Gill towards the conclusion of his career, believes the Punjab-based batsman is the ideal candidate to lead India in red-ball cricket. Notably, Gill replaced Rohit Sharma as India’s 37th Test captain.
The 25-year-old will begin his reign as India’s red-ball captain during the forthcoming five-match tour of England. Dhawan showed trust in Shubman, noting that the youngster has played well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has served the national squad for a long period.
“I think it’s an excellent choice. Shubman has lately had an excellent IPL season.
He is a terrific talent who has grown after playing for the Indian squad for numerous years. I believe he is the ideal man to take up the Test captaincy, and I am confident he will handle it well and lead the squad together. This is the new generation—Gen Z—and I am convinced he will do an excellent job. All the best to him.
For the finals, my support will be with Shikhar Dhawan of the Mumbai Indians
Furthermore, Shikhar Dhawan believes the Mumbai Indians (MI) will go the distance in the IPL 2025. He believes the five-time champions have a well-balanced team and applauds their recent progress.
“This time around, the IPL has been quite exciting. For the finals, I shall be rooting for the Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians are playing exceptionally well; they are very balanced. They’ve got incredible momentum, and they’re a really strong and balanced team. So I’m with the Mumbai Indians,” Dhawan concluded.
MI advanced to Qualifier 2 after defeating Shubman-led Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator by 20 runs on Friday, May 30, in Mullanpur. Hardik Pandya and co. will now face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, June 1. Shreyas Iyer’s PBKS fell to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by eight wickets in Qualifier 1.
