Shubman Gill, India’s T20I vice-captain, interrupted a training session to speak with Hong Kong cricketers on batting. The scene was captured on tape, and Gill’s noble gesture has since gained widespread praise from fans across the world.
Shubman Gill explained how to become a better batter against short-pitched bowling in a viral video uploaded by the Hong Kong team’s official social media handle.
The Punjab batter encouraged Hong Kong batters to participate in as many training sessions as possible to practise playing short deliveries. Gill stated that when they increase the amount of repetition, playing short balls will become muscle memory, and hitters will not have to make as many decisions on their own.
“Practice a lot, and you won’t have to worry about it too much. You don’t consider playing the drive. The ball arrives, and you’re ready to play. While playing short balls, your eyes comprehend because you have faced short balls one lakh, ten lakh times and performed the identical shot. Allow the body to take over. The more you ponder, the worse it will get. Think as little as possible. We keep talking about solid batting and staying in the zone. What is that zone? When asked by Hong Kong players how to improve hitting against short balls, Gill responded it is when a batter thinks less and simply reacts to the ball coming in.
The Indian Test captain also admitted to playing a lot with plastic balls early in his career. These recommendations will undoubtedly benefit Hong Kong players as they use the 2025 Asia Cup to enhance their talents.
Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 20 off just nine balls in India’s opening game of the Asia Cup against the UAE. He will have a key role to play in the high-voltage fixture against Pakistan on Sunday, September 14, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
