Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian cricketer, believes that Shubman Gill’s leadership qualities have the potential to propel Indian cricket forward. Despite India trailing England 2-1 after three Tests in the ongoing five-match Test series, the majority of the cricket world has praised Gill’s batting and captaincy.
Harbhajan also believes that instead of striving to replicate previous Indian captains, Gill should use his skills to bring out the best in him.
“Everyone’s tactics varies. Their natures and personalities are different. Shubman Gill cannot be Ganguly, Virat, or Dhoni. They’re all different. He needs to be the finest version of himself, and he possesses the talent. And he will learn. “I am telling you, Shubman will not only lead India well, but he will take Indian cricket to the top of the world,” Harbhajan said, as reported by India Today.
Harbhajan believes that Shubman Gill’s batting basics will make him a valuable member of the team in the future.
“Shubman Gill is a great player who will be a pillar of the Indian team for many years to come. How many Indian hitters have stamped their dominance in England? He clearly has the skill, and I never questioned his credentials in international cricket. “His fundamentals are excellent,” Harbhajan stated.
Shouldn’t pass judgement too quickly: Harbhajan Singh
The former World Cup winner reiterated his belief that the current Test team deserves more time before being evaluated, stating that the players have demonstrated their ability to become a world-class team.
“Results do not indicate how good the team has been. I stated before this tour that you should not assess this team too soon or too frequently. This is a youthful team with the potential to become world champions. The match they won in Birmingham was fantastic. India may have won at Lord’s as well; they were very close. And this series will provide this team with a wealth of knowledge. And the principles they learn from this series will serve them well in the future. Harbhajan cautioned against passing judgement too quickly.
India will take on England at Old Trafford in the fourth Test of the series. Gill, who has scored 607 runs in six innings, will be aiming on leading from the front and helping his team draw level to make it all to play for in the final clash of the high-octane series.
