England captain Ben Stokes smashed a full delivery from Prasidh Krishna down the ground on Day 5 of the second Test at Edgbaston. The ball appeared to be heading for the boundary, but Mohammed Siraj made an incredible diving attempt, plunging into a mound of sawdust to save critical runs for his team.
The ball ricocheted off Siraj’s body, and Indian captain Shubman Gill caught it closer to the boundary lines, while the batsmen could only run two, which looked like a sure shot four if the ace pacer hadn’t dived.
The amount of attention Siraj shown even when India had little fear of losing the game demonstrates the amount of work he puts into the game, whether with the ball in his hands or while fielding.

In terms of the game, England has been assigned a massive target of 608 runs, after the visiting team declared their second innings at 427/6 late on Day 4. Shubman Gill once again led from the front, scoring 161, while KL Rahul (55), Rishabh Pant (65), and Ravindra Jadeja (69*) also contributed significantly. Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir each took two wickets for England.
Earlier, Goill & Co. scored a huge 587 in their first innings, with the skipper scoring an incredible 269. Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) and Jadeja (89) also scored crucial runs. Bashir was England’s most effective bowler, with three wickets.
In response, England were bowled out for 407, despite heroic efforts from Jamie Smith (184*) and Harry Brook (158). However, the rest of the batting order disintegrated, with six English hitters recording ducks. Siraj shined with the ball, collecting six wickets, while Akash Deep took four.
At the close of Day 4, the Indian side had the upper hand, having reduced the hosts to three-wickets down with the dismissals of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root. On the final day, after an hour’s delay due to rain and with 80 overs scheduled to be bowled, Deep continued to shine, removing the dangerous Brook and Ollie Pope to further tighten India’s grip on the match. The last time before this Test that England lost their first five wickets for under 100 runs in both innings of a home Test was against Australia at Headingley in 2009, when they collapsed to 5/63 and 5/78.
