Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun believes it is time for Mohammed Siraj to take the lead role in the bowling attack, beginning with the Test series against England.
Siraj refined his abilities in his early years with the Indian team, under Arun’s cautious supervision, when Virat Kohli was captain and Ravi Shastri was the head coach. Arun has witnessed Siraj’s development from close quarters and is well-equipped to explain the 31-year-old pacer’s abilities.
Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year,
Would be unable to play all five Tests as the Indian team management plans to monitor his workload carefully. If Siraj can fill in for Bumrah, it will be a good sign for the Shubman Gill-led team.
Arun stated that the next England tour provides Siraj with an excellent opportunity to advance in stature, recalling how the Hyderabad bowler shone out during India’s memorable victory at Lord’s in 2021, when he took four wickets in each innings.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for Siraj.” He has enough experience under his belt. I’ve watched him bowl some outstanding periods, such as the one he bowled in the Lord’s Test, which we won last time. It’s time for Siraj to raise his hand and declare, ‘I’m going to be our country’s frontline bowler. He possesses the talent set. It is now critical to understand his thought,” Arun told TOI.
“He’s quite brilliant. Siraj is someone who may be a captain’s delight and always gives his all. Aggression is wonderful, but it must be controlled. He has done well in the IPL. “He seemed to be in good rhythm,” he continued.
Siraj has represented the Men in Blue in 36 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20Is, picking up 100, 71, and 14 wickets, respectively.
