Alyssa Healy, the captain of Australia, believes that a team that has undergone significant changes may learn from setbacks such as the one they suffered against South Africa in the second ODI. Using the DLS system, South Africa won by 84 runs, their first-ever triumph over Australia in an ODI. Significantly, Healy made his comments before the series finale, which will take place on Saturday, February 10, at the North Sydney Oval in New South Wales.
Healy claimed that Australia’s current losing streak was due to their “sloppy” play. Notably, following their defeat by the West Indies in a Twenty20 International at the North Sydney Oval, Australia has now dropped three games in all forms this season. But the captain supported her team as well, referring to them as “a really good cricket side.”
It’s very straightforward: you cannot afford to be careless and delay making the necessary adjustments. Over the summer, we have demonstrated that we suffer consequences when we fail, even a little, in any of the three areas. We have a tremendous opportunity tomorrow to come out here and perform as best we know how. Let’s be extremely clinical. We just need to show up tomorrow and keep doing what we did well in Adelaide, which is what we demonstrated we could do as a really excellent cricket team,” Healy was cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying.
Despite missing out on winning the series in the T20Is, South Africa will be looking to secure the series with a victory in the third ODI.
Eliz-Mari Marx, an all-rounder from South Africa, stated that they will play Australia in the series decider with the confidence they earned from winning the second game.
“It’s not finished at all. I believe that there is only one game left to play. We can win the series if we, as a team, can continue to play the way we did in the last game, Eliz-Mari Marx stated.
