Smriti Mandhana, India Women’s Vice-Captain, was thrilled about the revised group of speed bowlers for the white-ball trip of England before the series began.
Arundhati Reddy will lead the unit after Renuka Singh Thakur, Pooja Vastrakar, and Titas Sadhu were sidelined. Amanjot Kaur, Sayali Satghare, and Kranti Goud will split the effort with Reddy.
“We have a new-look pace-bowling unit because, unfortunately, a few injuries have occurred over the last four to five months, but it is very exciting.” “I mean [the] WPL has been good in terms of finding new people, and of course, the domestic system,” Mandhana said, as quoted.
Smriti Mandhana, who attended the pre-match press conference instead of Harmanpreet Kaur, expressed confidence in the young pacers’ preparations.
“[With] the number of matches the girls play nowadays, all of these girls have extensive experience in the domestic format, and I’m quite pleased to see them. It’s always wonderful to see young talent come in; everyone’s been preparing diligently, trying to do everything properly, and what better location than England to come as a pacer,” she remarked.
The left-handed top-order batter also stressed the significance of improving and changing one’s skill sets and techniques as a batter in the game’s shortest version.
“I think [in the] T20 game, there’s a lot of things for me to improve on. And not just myself, but most of the batters, it’s a format in which you have to constantly improvising and improving because the other sides are getting you and strategising against the way you bat,” Mandhana explained.
India Women will play five Twenty20 Internationals against England Women, managed by Nat Sciver-Brunt. The 20-over games will be followed by three One-Day Internationals. The first game of the series will take place on Saturday, June 28, at Trent Bridge.
