Cricket South Africa (CSA) has recently announced the roster for its forthcoming men’s tour of England. The tour will be played in a variety of white-ball forms, including three ODIs followed by as many 20-over matches. Aiden Markram will lead the T20I team, while Temba Bavuma will lead the one-day side. Markram will be Bavuma’s deputy in the three ODIs.
In reality, spinner Keshav Maharaj has been included to the T20 squad after impressing the selectors in the present One-Day International series against Australia. Maharaj took a match-winning five-wicket haul in the first match and was subsequently ranked as the No. 1 bowler in ODIs in the most recent rankings updates. He hopes to reproduce these performances in the game’s shortest format as well.
“We were experimenting with the spin-bowling all-rounders in our most recent T20I series, and Keshav was always part of our broader plans. His return to the squad strengthens our spin options. Beyond his obvious skill with the ball, he brings calmness and leadership to the group,” Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad said in an official statement.
Update on Rabada’s injury
The Proteas have also stated an update regarding the injury status of their key pacer Kagiso Rabada. Notably, Rabada was ruled out of the ODIs against Australia, after the scans confirmed an injury. Although he will be travelling to the UK alongside the entire squad, his participation in the series remains under scrutiny. As a cover for the pacer, South Africa have added Kwena Maphaka in both the line-ups.
“We are hopeful that he will be available for part of the ODI series. But we are prioritizing T20I cricket and will take a conservative approach. We won’t rush him back,” Conrad updated.
