In the 27th match of the season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 8 wickets after chasing down a massive total of 246 with unexpected ease in one of the most exciting IPL 2025 matches to far.
On a flat Hyderabad pitch, PBKS chose to bat first after winning the toss, and their hitters took full advantage of the circumstances. With a scorching 36 off just 13 balls, young opener Priyansh Arya got them off to a great start. Prabhsimran Singh, who led the innings with a scorching 42 (23), provided him with strong assistance. Shreyas Iyer, the captain, dominated the total with a barrage of boundaries, scoring 82 off 36 balls.
The SRH bowlers had their moments despite the assault, with Harshal Patel emerging as the standout performer with four wickets at 42 runs. With two wickets, including the crucial dismissals of Prabhsimran and Wadhera, Eshan Malinga contributed.
The SRH openers came out firing as they chased 246. Travis Head’s scorching 66 off 37 balls set the tone. But Abhishek Sharma stole the show with a spectacular 141 off only 55 deliveries, which included 10 sixes and 14 fours. The pursuit seemed effortless because of his brilliant innings.
With more than nine balls remaining, Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan calmly completed the task, bringing SRH to 247/2 in just 18.3 overs.
None of Punjab’s bowlers were able to control the run pace, and they appeared completely lost under duress. Yuzvendra Chahal was costly even though he picked up Head, and Arshdeep Singh was the only player to take wickets.
With this decisive win, SRH moved up to eighth place in the standings, greatly increasing their momentum and net run rate.
