Sri Lanka has named a 16-player ODI team for their forthcoming tour to Zimbabwe. The white-ball series, which will comprise a handful of ODIs and three T20Is, begins on August 29.
Wanindu Hasaranga, an ace all-rounder, has not been picked to the roster. He had missed the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in July due to a hamstring ailment. Hasaranga had performed admirably for the island nation in the previous three ODIs against Bangladesh, scoring 22 and 4/10, 13 and 3/60, and 18* and 2/35.
Top-order batter Nuwanidu Fernando, who last featured in an ODI in November 2024, has returned for the Lankans. Skipper Charith Asalanka will lead the team.
All five white-ball matches (two ODIs followed by three T20Is) will be played at the Harare Sports Club. Sri Lanka’s next assignment after visiting Zimbabwe will be the Asia Cup 2025 in which they are slotted in Group B along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong.
Sri Lanka last toured the Chevrons for a limited-overs series in November 2008, when they whitewashed the hosts in the five-match series, with Kumar Sangakkara (182 runs in five matches), Ajantha Mendis (15 wickets in five matches) and Muttiah Muralidaran (11 wickets in four matches) starring for the touring team.
