Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the country’s governing cricketing council, has denied reports of a financial crisis inside the organisation on the operational front. The Sri Lankan board has totally refuted the erroneous accusations that have been circulating in several news and social media channels during the last few days.
Notably, the fraudulent claims arose as Sri Lanka seeks to co-host the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup with neighbouring India. The SLC has finally responded to the unfounded accusations and reaffirmed that the organization’s financial operations are entirely solid and sound, allowing it to prepare for the headline T20I tournament.
“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to clarify that recent social media reports alleging a financial problem within the organisation are absolutely false and misleading.
We affirm that Sri Lanka Cricket has sufficient financial stability to conduct its operations and achieve its long-term strategic plans,” said an SLC media release on Thursday, July 31.
“SLC is now actively and successfully involved in preparations to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 with India, as well as to conduct 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 set for September this year. Such detailed planning and execution are only possible with adequate financial support,” the statement continued.
According to the statement, SLC‘s goal is to upgrade and restore its venues across the country in order to meet international T20 World Cup standards. It also intends to improve the country’s cricketing infrastructure, including at the grassroots level. The Lankan body is also devoted to choosing environmentally responsible choices, such as installing solar-powered gadgets, in order to contribute to a more sustainable future.
