Ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings have hired former Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram as their assistant bowling coach. Sriram will work with bowling consultant Eric Simons, batting coach Mike Hussey, and head coach Stephen Fleming.
Dwayne Bravo, a former CSK veteran who joined the Kolkata Knight Riders as a trainer last year, is replaced by Sriram. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the West Indian all-rounder served as bowling coach for CSK, the IPL’s second-most successful team.
Sridharan Sriram provides a plethora of experience.
From 2016 until 2022, he served as Australia’s assistant coach. He joined Bangladesh as a T20 consultant in August 2022 as they prepared for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. He joined the Lucknow Super Giants the following year (2023) as their assistant coach for the 2024 Indian Premier League. Before the 2023 50-over World Cup, he returned to Bangladesh as a technical consultant. Not to be overlooked is the fact that he was the assistant coach for the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals).
As in previous years, CSK is once again loaded with front-row spinners, including Noor Ahmad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Rachin Ravindra and Deepak Hooda are also spin-bowling all-rounders, but the list doesn’t stop there.
Regarding the last edition, CSK was unable to qualify for the playoffs. Under Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s leadership, they won seven of their 14 group-stage matches and lost as many, ultimately placing fifth. At the conclusion of their league phase, they were tied with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They were unable to pass, nevertheless, due to a lower net run rate.
The IPL 2025 is scheduled to start on March 22. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the match between KKR and RCB. The initial match for both teams would be between CSK and the Mumbai Indians the next evening.
